Registrations & accreditations

PMI is registered as a Private Higher Education Institute with the Department of Higher Education (No. 2000/HE07/011) and as a Further Education & Training provider with Umalusi and most SETAs.

PMI is a member of the Association of Private Providers of Education, Training & Development

Established in 1997, APPETD is the national body representing the interests of private providers of ETD in South Africa. It has come to be recognised as an ethical body that works toward establishing and maintaining the highest standards of education and training throughout the industry.

Formed by APCSA, APDEC, ATP and INPROV, the Association provides several chambers to cater for the diverse interests and needs of its members: face-to-face, distance, training, ABET, Early Childhood Development (ECD) provider institutions.

South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)

The South African Qualifications Authority is a body of 29 members appointed by the Ministers of Education and Labour. The members are nominated by identified national stakeholders in education and training. The functions of the Authority are essentially twofold:

  • To oversee the development of the NQF, by formulating and publishing policies and criteria for the registration of bodies responsible for establishing education and training standards or qualifications and for the accreditation of bodies responsible for monitoring and auditing achievements in terms of such standards and qualifications;
  • To oversee the implementation of the NQF by ensuring the registration, accreditation and assignment of functions to the bodies referred to above, as well as the registration of national standards and qualifications on the framework. It must also take steps to ensure that provisions for accreditation are complied with and where appropriate, that registered standards and qualifications are internationally comparable.

Council on Higher Education

The South African Council on Higher Education (CHE) is an independent statutory body with the following responsibilities:

  • Advise the Minister of Higher Education and Training on any aspect of Higher Education.
  • Quality promotion and quality assurance, specifically, the auditing of the quality assurance mechanisms of higher education institutions and the accreditation of higher education programmes.
  • Development and management of its sub-framework i.e. the Higher Education Qualifications Framework (HEQF) and advising the Minister of Higher Education and Training on matters relating to the HEQF.
  • Development and implementation of policy and criteria for the development, registration and publication of qualifications i.e. standards setting, the naming conventions for qualifications.
  • Ensuring the development of qualifications as are required for the higher education system.

SETA

Services Sector Education and Training Authorities have been established to ensure that the skill needs for every sector of the South African economy are identified and that training is available to provide for these skill needs. Services SETA aims to provide comprehensive information regarding the Authority, its structure and its functions. The information is presented in an easily accessible manner, covering both general areas as well as information specific to Employers, Training Providers and Learners.

MERSETA

The MERSETA is the SETA for Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services, covering the metal and engineering, auto manufacturing, motor retail and components, new tyre and plastics industries.

W&R SETA

W&R Seta is the Premier Authority in Skills Development, exceeding stakeholder expectations in the wholesale and retail sector.

MQA

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a tripartite statutory body established by the Mine Health and Safety Act of 1996. In April 2000, the MQA was registered by the Minister of Labour as a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA), in terms of the Skills Development Act of 1998.
